In the early days of Photoshop, when it was took expensive and took five minutes to open on your computer, the process of isolating a person from their background was tricky work. You could attempt masking or trust the chaos of “magic lasso.” These days, very powerful tools are available for free, enabling anyone with half a mind and ten free minutes to compose a reasonable Size Fantasy collage.

I taught myself the simplest, perhaps laziest way to do this and wrote it up in a how-to. I learned to compensate for his lack of expertise with some visual tricks and methods to assist composition, such as taking a photo of myself in the same location, at the same angle so the shadows fall the same way, and the same time of day as the background of the image. My wife has helped with setting up photos as well as posing in some herself.
